Aloha mai kākou!

First and foremost, please accept our apologies for not updating this blog since January. Time has flown by, and so much has happened in just a few short months—we’re excited to finally share some highlights with you! Since our last post, our hālau has been incredibly active in the community, participating in multiple performances and celebrations.

Here are just a few of the memorable events we’ve been part of:

  • Pure Aloha Festival – April 18 & 19: A beautiful weekend full of Aloha spirit, culture, and community.

  • Lei Day Parade – May 1st in Summerlin: What a joy it was to celebrate Lei Day with such a vibrant and supportive crowd!

  • Flavors of Aloha – May 3rd: This event was full of ono food, great energy, and amazing performances.

  • Private Performances – From birthdays to special community events, we were honored to bring hula to several private gatherings throughout the season.

  • Lilo & Stitch Grand Opening at Palace Station – To top it all off, we were invited to perform at the red carpet grand opening of the new Lilo & Stitch movie. Our keiki and adult dancers shared a fun performance, and afterward, we were treated to our very own private theater screening—with complimentary drinks, snacks, and pizza! What an unforgettable experience for all involved!

One of the most exciting additions to our hālau this season has been the blessing of live music during our performances, thanks to the creation of a new in-house band made up of our Te Nati studio members. Te Nati means “the link” in Tahitian, and although our hālau already has a name, we are also affectionately known as Te Nati Hula—the hula link. The band, called Te Nati Roots, beautifully represents the connection between music and dance, with rhythms and melodies that bring our performances to life. Music is the root of dancing, and we are deeply grateful to have their talent and support woven into our hula presentations.

Looking ahead, I am so excited to share even more rich knowledge of hula and Hawaiian heritage with both my students and the broader lāhui community. From language to values, stories to traditions, there’s so much to pass on—and we’re just getting started.

In addition to all these wonderful events, we’re thrilled to share that our hālau ʻohana has grown tremendously—nearly doubling in student enrollment over the past six months! With this growth, we’ve been able to deepen our commitment to teaching not just hula choreography, but also the cultural depth, history, and values that make hula a living tradition.

Mahalo nui loa to all our students, ʻohana, and supporters who continue to uplift and strengthen our hālau. We are so excited for what the rest of the year holds. Stay tuned for more updates—promise we won’t wait so long next time!

Me ke aloha,

Hālau anuhea i ka pōli ʻo Kawahine Hoʻomanawanui

What an incredible year it’s been for our hālau so far and such a beautiful video compilation of the performances! I love the meaning behind Te Nati Hula and Te Nati Roots. I truly appreciate  Kumu’s style of teaching, in both hula and Hawaiian heritage. It’s so exciting to be part of the hālau’s growth!

Mahalo Kumu, for the heart you bring to every lesson and helping us to grow!
